Sheena Denise Stegent was born on March 10, 1975 in Houston, TX, where she was raised in The Heights.  Her life, so far, has been a series of tales that could be told, but it's better just to sum it all up by saying it has been a beautiful mess of a learning experience!  Sheena believes her creative abilities are a gift from the Creator of Life itself.  The Universe placed her with creative parents, so it flows through her blood as well.  I guess some would call her "self-taught".  Sheena calls it the nature of her being.  She invites you to see life from her perspective.

The artistic expressions of Sheena Stegent are a kaleidoscope of color and texture.  You will find a range of mediums so broad, it really has no limitations.  From one-of-a-kind jewelry featuring her intricately handmade magazine paper beads; to vibrant, often heavily textured paintings, Sheena uses any means with which to bring her ideas to life.  Each piece has a tale it wants to tell.  Sheena defines art by saying, "I believe that art is the manifestation of emotional energy, captured by the artist and brought into the visual realm through them.  The artist IS the medium."  When you acquire your own piece of Sheena's work, you will often find it because it has spoken to you.  Something about it captures your attention, or you just feel drawn to it.  It has found you!  It was meant for you.  "There have been times when I stand back and look at my work almost as if it were foreign.  I will have no idea what it means or what it is expressing, or why it came from me.....and then I meet the person it was made for...and it all makes sense."

Inspiration?  "You want to know what inspires me?"  Sheena repeats the question, slightly confused by it.  "Hmm....okay...well, I am inspired by clouds in the sky...and by tall country grass!  And by the sound of the wind in the trees late at night around my porch. By trees in general, really. I love to climb them!  I love the way they feel and how they rock you when the wind blows. I am comforted by trees.  I'm inspired by my canine companion, Luke, and his complete unconditional love and loyalty.  No human has ever been THAT happy to see me every single time I come home, without fail, for 10 years straight and counting!  I am inspired by the ground beneath my bare feet, grass and mud between my toes, doing something I used to love but haven't done in a long time, reading great literary works, patchwork quilts, watermelons, grapes, oranges, morning glories, all kinds of flowers, especially wild ones!  Spiders, turtles, porcupines, zebras, mountains, sunrises and sunsets, and obviously the Moon, in all her Radiance!  Even by tall buildings, but more by old buildings and their history.  Marble countertops, pea pods, water fountains, "my" spot on the Guadalupe River.  By family and friends, people in general really, and random acts of kindness, especially between strangers.  By heartache and struggles, and perseverance through them all.  By movement and stillness, by peace and serenity, wind chimes, music, incense, the smell of rain, fresh baked bread, hard wood floors, long shaggy rugs, herbal teas, smooth river rocks, lightning, thunder, mushrooms that sprout up out of nowhere, mermaids, knights, goddesses, gnomes and enchanted tales..........

We are sorry, Sheena has drifted off to sleep mumbling something about faeries and small furry woodland creatures.....
