FIMO BEADS
Fimo
is a very popular modeling clay. It is stiff and the most difficult to
condition. This is excellent for achieving that swirled look that I
love. Many people make
cane sticks of specific designs
when
making their beads, however I do not. I make mine
by rolling two or more colors together to achieve the desired design. When
baked, Fimo becomes a matte surface which can be buffed into a high shine, if
desired. I prefer the matte finish of the clay that naturally occurs, so mine
are almost always this way, rather than glossy. Fired Fimo is very strong. I use
Eberhard Faber
brand Fimo clay for my beads, either in classic or soft. The classic is stiffer
and holds it's color very well. This makes some great sharp contrasts and
designs. The soft is easier to work, which makes it easier to mix colors
together to make a custom color. The classic version is great for keeping the colors distinguished and sharp. Either
way, making Fimo beads is something I really enjoy!
