A gemstone is the naturally occurring crystalline form of a mineral.

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with stones and crystals. Earth science was always my favorite science, especially when the focus was on geology. I was drawn to the section of the science museum where all the crystals are displayed. All this fascination as a child, before I even knew anything about the metaphysical properties of these extraordinary formations! As I began to learn, and understand their power, the love affair began. The process is still going as I continue to learn and incorporate them into my life according to their purpose, and appreciate them more and more.......

This section is a project that I began a long time ago, and have never finished....mostly because I soon realized it can never really be finished. The depth of information about crystals is extensive, and by the time I could finish giving all of the information I'd like to share, I will have written a book quite similar to the ones I have used as a reference here. So, my suggestion if you really want to learn about crystals is to buy or borrow a book and study the one's you like the most. It's worth the experience! Here is a little tidbit:

AMETHYST

"Stone of spirituality, meditation and contentment". A very powerful healer. Heals personal loss and grief, increases spiritual awareness, enhances intuition, promotes peacefulness and contentment, calms anger, fear and resentment. Balancing, clears energy blockages and stimulates Throat Chakra. Beneficial for reducing withdrawal symptoms and other physical ailments. Strengthens cleansing organs and circulatory system.

HEMATITE

"Stone for the mind". Grounding, protecting, and balancing. Aids in concentration and sorting out thoughts in the mind, memory enhancement, calming, stress reducing, encourages optimism, and courage. Assists in focusing energy for balance between the mind, body and spirit. Can be used to draw out fever. Strong affects on blood, supports kidneys and aids anemia.

"Dream stone" and "Stone of fidelity" Brings realization to ones potential and devotion to ones purpose. Helps one to remember and solve dreams. Used by ancient tribes as a sacred stone, assisting with access to the spiritual realms. Encourages serenity, wisdom, balance, mental peace, tolerance, and prosperity. Rejuvenates and heals ailments of the immune system, removes toxins, supports the heart, kidneys, and spleen.

OBSIDIAN

Obsidian is an excellent grounding stone, providing a connection from the base of the spine to heart of the Earth, supporting the root chakra. A protective stone, it shields against negativity, transforming the negative vibrations within an environment. Obsidian was used by ancient people as a cutting tool, for weapons, and for ceremonial purposes. Pictured here is a variation called Mahogany Obsidian. Black Obsidian (not shown here) in particular is very powerful and used by Shamans.

ONYX

Enhances steadfastness and determination, enhances self mastery, valuable for deflecting negative energy. Initiates the modes for centering and alignment of the total person with the higher powers. Useful in difficult times in one's life, aids in healing bones, teeth, and blood disorders.

TIGER EYE

Excellent grounding stone, great for phases of change in life, harmony and order, clarity, balance. Used in treatment of eye disorders, aids night vision and broken bones, and ailments of the throat, reproductive system and alignment of the spinal column.

TURQUOISE

honesty, self realization, healing of the spirit and soul, calming of mind and body, protection, wisdom, serenity, absorbs negativity.

Facilitates rebirthing, releases conditions inhibiting growth, balances emotional body. Used to enhance weight gain, in treatment of reproductive system, stimulates healthy pregnancies, and promotes the health of the unborn.

QUARTZ

One of the most common minerals of the earth's crust. Also known as quartz crystal or quartz crystal. Varieties are abundant, here are a few: chalcedony, agate, onyx, jasper, aventurine, tiger's eye, rock crystal, ruby quartz, amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, milk quartz, smoky quartz....
